Røros

Røros is an old mining town in the mountains southeast of Trondheim. In its day, Røros Copperworks was one of Scandinavia's and northern Europe's largest industrial concerns. Ore was first found here about 1650, and mining occurred until 1977. Today, Røros appears on UNESCO's World Heritage List as one of the few preserved timber-built town centers, most of the others having been destroyed by fires through the ages.
