Olavsgruva

Olavsgruva, or Olav's mine, is close to Røros, and was one of the mines that supplied the Røros smelter with ore. The Olavsgruva (as it is known today) comprises the original Nyberget Mine, Crownprince Olav's Mine, and a Mining Museum. The ore deposit at Nyberget must have been discovered around 1650 becasue the name 'Neuberg' was first mentioned in 1660 in connection with the neighboring Hestkletten Mine. The mine was closed in 1977, but today is operated as a museum. It is one of the few mines that you can take a tour through.
